Z is for Zoom

How great is Zoom???
 
How would we have survived without Zoom?
 
Zoom has had so many unexpected benefits for us.  It has enabled us to serve our regional members more effectively - nearly 40% of our membership base.  It has enabled us to have management committtee meetings in the comfort of our own home.  
 
Members can now attend meetings from the comfort of their own homes without having to drive in the dark at night or step out into the cold in winter.
 
Of course nothing beats face to face contact but until we have the virus under control (if ever) this is better than the proverbial poke in the eye with the burnt stick.
 
We could all use Zoom better and I'd be grateful for any tips you could give for hosting events, meetings or workshops on Zoom..

This is the last post in the AtoZchallenge.  Do you feel like a Zombie?  I hope you get some well-earned ZZZZZZs now you have completed the challenge.
 
And just because this is a family history blog and I'm trying to think of Z words, I will share a funny fact that you probably don't know about me.  When I was I think 3 years old, the TV fell on my foot when I was watching Z Cars. 
 
I have no memory of the incident.  It happened when we were living in Melbourne.  It hit the big toe on my right foot.  Thankfully I survived and they didn't have to peg out an outline of my body on the living room floor like in this episode ....

Zoom was definitely was an expected highlight of the pandemic. I hope that societies and organisations continue with them as I’m sure they’re the way of the future. Your A to Z series has been really great. I’ve enjoyed checking in to see how you’ve approached each letter. Well done to us for getting to the end. The A to Z is hard work but I love it. Time for a bit of down time now

I knew that I would not be alone in highlighting Zoom at this time! I was only tipping my toe into,it whereas you have been making full use of the benefits in your society s activities. . I have enjoyed reading your posts, and would never have thought of the range of issues you featured. You are lucky in having such a talented and skilled membership to draw on for all your activities. My local heritage committee is tiny in comparison, but the actual work is done by only a few, whilst others have the interest and contribute to discussions, they do not have the skills in computerization, archive management etc . I have learnt a lot from your posts - so thank you for an enlightening series of posts. Regards, Susan

Zoom is the perfect ending to your series -- and congrats on completing the A to Z Challenge. You're right -- what would we have done/do with out Zoom? I've enjoyed your insightful posts on societies during April, and appreciated your supportive comments on mine. I'm sure we'll be catching up during the year as well. Anne - your comment is much appreciated indeed. I wondered if I was ever going to make it sometimes and was never very confident of the quality so I'm glad to have hit the mark.

Molly - we did it! Camaraderie is what has helped me reach the end. Thank you for all your lovely support. I so enjoyed going down memory lane with you :)

Sue - how many snaps is that??? You and I are on the same wavelength despite being thousands of miles/kilometres/waves apart. Please keep in touch in blogland won't you. I guess Sepia Saturday will be our contact point from now until next April :)

Jennifer - yes Zoom has been a blessing and what will we do with all our spare time now? I feel a knitting surge coming on ;)

Thanks for all your informative posts, your series is a super evaluation tool that should be studied by all who hold or aspire to hold office in a family history organisation.

While at times I've felt frustrated and deficient after reading some of the posts I've appreciated the opportunity to reflect on my local organisation.

52 Ancestors in 52 weeks - Week 3 - Favourite Photo

Tell the story of a favorite photo: Who is in it, when and where it was taken, and why it was taken. (That last part is often left out!)   Barbara Conner hanging up washing in Edinburgh     This is a photo of my mother hanging up the washing when we were living in Edinburgh in the 60s. I think my father took it to record what ordinary life was like at the time and to send back to the folks at home in Australia.  I'm sure my mother was not pleased but I am so grateful because you can see so much in this photo.  They had a kettle, something like a Sunbeam electric frypan.  I think I can spot a toaster and a radio up on the top shelf.  You can see that the glass came in milk bottles in those days and that the twin tub washing machine was in the kitchen.  There are canisters for things like tea and c...

Have you received an email from Ancestry lately suggesting you check out new traits?  DNA doesn't lie, so they say, but I beg to differ.   This will probably be an intensely boring post for those of you who don't really know me but I feel compelled to record my responses to the alleged traits for the amusement or interest of posterity and my family. 16 new traits have been identified for me.  There are 56 identified traits altogether. Let's tackle the new traits first: Competitiveness - likely to be competitive - influenced by my maternal side apparently.  Yes I agree but not with the side of the family.  If you'd asked me I would have said the paternal side.  My paternal grandmother was I believe intensely competitive - witness the articles I have written about her swimming prowess.  I'm struggling to recall any competitiveness displayed by my mother ...
