Alan from Sepia Saturday says:   I f you would like a sign as to what to do for Sepia Saturday 238 ...then look no further than this 1935 picture of Broome Street in Manhattan which comes from the Flickr Commons stream of the New York Public Library. If you want to be on theme, you can choose any type of sign you want, or any other visual clue you can find in the photograph. If you prefer to be off-theme, then that is entirely your choice. Several photos spring to mind with this theme.  My father,  having trained as an architect,  could write a mean Garage Sale sign when required - and birthday cards - and notes from the tooth fairy - and signage for children's birthday parties - my Witches Party stands out the most in memory - boy we had fun that day.  But here is the first sign I remember at one of my birthday parties.  I think this may have been my 6th Birthday party.  If you zoom into the sign there are six candles on the picture of the bi...

Sepia Saturday 224: 19 April 2014

Alan from Sepia Saturday says: The other week I made a confession about my aversion to gardening and all things horticultural and I was challenged to include a possible gardening theme for a future Sepia Saturday. Well, here it is - for Sepia Saturday 224 (post your post on or around Saturday 19th April 2014) you can choose from gardens, gardening, watering cans, and men stood watching women do all the work. Anyone who knows me well, GrandPurlBaa for example, knows that gardening is not my forte.  I appreciate a beautiful garden...really appreciate it but will do nothing to create my own.  Lazy sod that I am. And yet I can't blame it on my genes.  Both sides of my family seem to have loved garde...

The Springs Chalet Mt Wellington Tasmania c 1949 Isn't this picturesque? The back of the photo reads: " This is the Springs Chalet up Mt Wellington where I walked and had afternoon tea. There was no snow at the Chalet at the time except on the Mountain at back similar to the other photo No. 1"   I have no idea what Photo No. 1 is.  And I'm not sure whose handwriting this is.  It doesn't look like Gran's and it doesn't look like my father's.  I'll have to ask him. These photos are in one of my father's albums. Here is another photo of his mother in the snow.   The caption underneath the photo in the album read " Puss in Boots " Ethel Conner nee Carrett Mt Wellington c 1949   And the back of the photo says " On top of Mt Wellington " I think they went to Tasmania for a holiday after his brother died. Some of the photos are dated 20 July 1947 on the back so I think maybe his mothe...
