Family Tree Frog

I have been agonizing over how to write about Week 1's prompt for National Family History Month.  At first, I was going to write about the McLoughlin family in Orange. Whilst not in Surry Hills, they were Irish Catholics.  But the pickings were slim in terms of stories...so I turned to other sources.  I am sure stories do exist- I just couldn't find them or make them stick, so to speak. Going through my family records I noticed that a couple of my ancestors were married in Surry Hills so I decided to pursue that angle instead. Introducing George Henry Carrett and Sarah Stores .  These two are effectively my paternal grandmother's paternal grandparents - got that?  Or my great-great-grandparents on my father's side of the family.   So - who were George Henry Carrett and Sarah Stores? Little Nell says: This week's prompt comes from the George Eastman House Collection on Flickr.com. in the set of Nickolas Muray. Regular Sepians who click on the link of his name will immediately recognise images of his that have been featured before. Yes I know they're anything but sepia and for that alone they are remarkable. Muray was a pioneering commercial photographer, responsible for establishing many of the conventions of colour advertising. This example is for an insurance advert and those Sepians who like to theme may choose from any number of prompts here. The photo appears to have been taken by the doctor, who has left his coat draped on the bedposts and his bag on the bed itself, thus ensuring that any bacteria is neatly carried on to his next patient. In addition we have a boy in bed, toys and patchwork quilt. If the prompt throws up (sorry) any other themes we look forward to reading them on your blog, which should be posted on or about 28 September....

Gramps 2 This is one of those frustrating photos. I have to assume that it is Edwin Conner again. It was in my grandmother's album and photos of her father don't look like this. I don't know where this photo was taken but I'm guessing maybe Melbourne or Sydney. In my imagination he is building a vege patch. But it could be the footings of a home too. It looks like a new estate doesn't it?  And pine trees in the background?  Recent correspondence with my father suggests maybe it is Sydney and when my grandparents were building their new home at Undercliffe.  They lived at 58 Riverview Road. Edwin died in 1927 - his son Edwin Arthur James married my grandmother Ethel in 1924 so I'm thinking the photo dates from around then - let's say 1923 - 1925.
