Week 4 - Sunday 28 August August is National Family History Month in Australia and Australian Family and Local History bloggers thought it would be a great idea to have a - Blogging Challenge!  Everyone is welcome to join in, even if you don't live in Australia, we'd love to hear from you and hear your stories. Australian poet Dorothea Mackellar in her poem My Country talks of a "sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of rugged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding rains".  What does "country" or place mean to your family?  What makes your place unique or special? What makes it home - people, place, time My mother used to ask me - "Which is home for you?" ... mostly because we had lived in a few homes and she wondered which one meant the most to me.   It's hard to say....probably our home in Aranda but I loved our home in Glebe too. I don't remember our first home - Hurstville... This is where I came home to as a baby. Pictures The road & area I left home when I was about 20.  I moved to a friend's place first and then into a rental property in Chippendale.   Our home was in Sydney and was called "Avondale" at 44 Toxteth Road Glebe.  We hadn't lived there for very long - say about five years. What is precious, tattered, torn and handed down? To so many of us Sepians, the answer is photographs - family photographs passed on from generation to generation are the currency of Sepia Saturday. But occasionally other things are handed down - and in so many cases it is the family bible that becomes the linchpin of family history. So for Sepia Saturday 187 (post your posts on or around Saturday 27 July 2013) we focus our attention on family bibles.
