Sepia Saturday 357: 4th March 2017

Image
Today's Sepia Saturday photo prompt gives us an opportunity to identify what catches our eye in this photo and what photos we may have in our collection that reflect the same objects or sentiments. What gives us joy?  A great hat?  A puppy?  New togs?   Are we looking for a sailor suit?  A dog?  A matron with a magnificent hat?  A verandah? I've brought out a couple of photos for inspection.  I've chosen to focus on dogs. I am hard pressed to find sailor suits or matrons with such magnificent millinery. My sister-in-law brought over some tiny photos a couple of years ago...more treasures I think from her mother Fay's room.  We loved this one of my husband.  It's almost a trio but not quite. 2.5. Although if you count the budgies I guess we're looking at 4.5. Robert Dexter Daw We're not sure where it's taken...maybe Gran and Father's place (Robert and Pat's grandparents' place).... Wordless Wednesday

Image
I know how frustrating Wordless can be so I'm just going to include the description that my husband gave of where this was taken.  This is Carey's Corner (that white building you can see at the end of the street).  It's on the corner of Nerang and Scarborough Streets Southport where the taxi rank has always been (he claims) near the Cecil Hotel.  Who was Cecil Carey I wonder.  And that's Allison's Drapers that you can see half of the awning next to Carey's Corner.  All comments about this photo gratefully excepted.  I'm guessing it was taken c 1955. It's a bit difficult to get the same perspective of course these days but this is where we are talking about. Google Pic taken in 2007 For more memories have a read here  on the Southport Stories.  And for another perspective have a look at the photo here.  Bit of a shame about losing the clock.

Sepia Saturday 188: 3 August 2013

Take a look at this 1905 photograph (from the collection of the Library of Congress) of the pier and harbour of the English port of Littlehampton. What you see is a tall ship and a remarkably small lighthouse. Or you might want to focus on the high windmill and the squat little tugboat. So if you want a theme for Sepia Saturday 188 (post your posts on or around Saturday 3 August 2013) you could look for photographs that bring together large and small, or big and little. Or, there again, you could focus on the sea, ships, lighthouse, piers or men leaning against bicycles. As ever with Sepia Saturday, the choice is up to you : all we ask for is an old photo and some new thoughts. Ouf - what a banquet of choice this week in Sepia Saturday. I can't focus on anything. I live in Brisbane so you have to have the obligatory shot of our windmill. Windmill and flagstaff in Wickham Terrace ca. 1893 I do believe that is a man and his bicycle in the foreground - albeit ...
