I couldn't stop looking to see what else I could find. Also how lovely that you have those letters. I especially appreciate it, as my Mum is one of those people who throws out everything including letters and photos. I love the colours in your Mum's dress, in the colourised photo. My father George Eric Jones was married toEttie Robertson and I have been looking for his name regarding her death in October 1935, However he is not really mentioned other than the name JONES. It appears her older sister and brother in law were mentioned. Perhaps there may have been a few cupboard skeletons. My grandmother liked a good fire after someone died. Quite the thing apparently to burn photos/letters of the person who had died. Can you believe it??? My mother kept carbon copies of all her letters and gave her friends and me the copies of stuff she wrote to us when she knew she was dying. She gave me her letters to her father which are just so precious. It doesn't matter how many times I read them, I pick something different up every time. She was an excellent letter writer. A lost art I fear.Alex Dawhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05083753053051713061noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-545255455173688148.post-26324372391704743802024-01-21T07:21:59.996+10:002024-01-21T07:21:59.996+10:00What a great story Alex and such a natural photo. ...What a great story Alex and such a natural photo. Isn’t it amazing what we can extract from a photo beyond the person? It would have been squashed having the washing machine and laundry in the kitchen. I loved the image of you going up and down the stairs! It’s great that your mother’s letters were preserved. I wrote copious letters to my parents throughout our time in PNG incl the early days. Sadly, Mum told me she burnt them all (in fit of pique), so frustrating.<br />PauleenPauleenhttps://cassmobfamilyhistory.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-545255455173688148.post-76253147368713234822024-01-18T20:59:40.457+10:002024-01-18T20:59:40.457+10:00You are so incredibly busy with your QFHS and Fami...You are so incredibly busy with your QFHS and Family History Month commitments, I'm surprised you had any time for research. Portsmouth Cemeteries replied very quickly to my query about where my ancestor Edward CONNOR/CONNER was buried. They confirmed he was buried on 7 October 1903 in Section 94 Aylwins Row 8 Plot 45 at Kingston Cemetery. As the plot was not purchased it was re-claimed and the current headstones are for the names Rosette 1954 and Alice 1970 Miller. They also kindly sent me a copy of the cemetery map so I have no excuse for not visiting the grave should I ever return to Old Blighty. Thank you and a big SHOUT OUT to HGS and Portsmouth Cemeteries for your prompt attention. A 24-hour turnaround on each query. I've been a bit busy and distracted with Xmas preparations et al. If you search trove.nla.gov.au and put the search terms in as follows "Ettie Robertson" AND swim you should get about 690 results. Make sure to put Ettie Robertson in inverted commas.
